Yet now, the radical Biden administration is hellbent on forcing these blue-collar patriots into expensive, unproven electric truck technology they openly denounce as unworkable. The harsh truth is that battery-powered big rigs simply cannot replace today's reliable diesel workhorses. Just ask 30-year trucking veteran Mike Nichols, who didn't mince words: "Even if they subsidized the cost 100%, I still would refuse because I'd go broke. That's how useless they are. If they gave me one of these things, I still wouldn't take it."
The numbers lay bare the economic illogic being crammed down truckers' throats. High-end electric semis top out around 500 miles per charge under perfect conditions. Meanwhile, a conventional diesel truck can crush well over 1,500 miles on one reasonably-priced tank - often up to 2,000 miles. That's a game-changing advantage for hardworking drivers whose livelihood depends on maximum range.
On top of that, recharging an electric truck's battery is a painfully slow 3-hour slog. A trucker can refill a diesel tank in 20 minutes or less at any truck stop. You don't need an economics degree to see which option makes more financial sense for workers compensated by the mile and load.
Punishing winters only exacerbate the electric models' inadequacies, with battery performance plummeting in cold weather. There are also serious doubts whether battery-powered trucks could effectively run auxiliary equipment through critical power takeoffs when idling - a routine need for operators working industrial job sites.

Crippling Costs for Working Class Truckers
Even worse, the premium for electric trucks hammers another sickening financial blow. The average price tag starts around $300,000 - nearly double the $150,000 a brand new diesel semi costs on average. For countless small business owners and independent truckers who Bleed Sweat and exhaust fumes as owner-operators, that cost is a death sentence.
"This administration continues putting out regulations without any real knowledge of what these real truckers go through. It's just so frustrating," warns Lewie Pugh from the Owner-Operator Independent Drivers Association. The group cautions that many mom-and-pop trucking businesses could go bankrupt under Biden's reckless crusade.
But the staggering costs don't stop at purchasing exorbitantly-priced electric trucks. The U.S. is woefully unprepared with a mere 160,000 public charging ports remotely suitable for trucks. To support mass electrification, we'd need 28 million such ports built out by 2030 according to experts - a multi-billion dollar industrial overhaul no one's budgeted for.
America's aging power grid can't even handle the enormous new electricity demand either. By one estimate, fully electrifying transportation will require a 40% increase in total grid generation and transmission capacity nationwide. In today's funds, those upgrades could cost multiple trillions that bankrupt state and federal coffers.
Rigging the System Against Workers
Yet Biden pushes on, utterly undeterred by reality. His bureaucrats at the Environmental Protection Agency arrogantly promised only to "monitor implementation" of their regulations once they take effect in 2026 - tacitly admitting they'll evaluate fallout after the damage is done.
This is what happens when bureaucrats in DC's swamp isolate themselves from the very working class Americans who'll be crushed under their policies. Pugh railed against the administration repeatedly "issuing regulations without any real knowledge of what truckers go through." The disconnect between elite policymakers and the gritty livelihoods of American truckers has never been more stark.
In their reckless obsession with a green agenda, Democrat leaders have rigged the system against the very blue-collar workers who make this nation run. Scoring political points has taken priority over crafting sensible proposals grounded in economic reality and technological feasibility.
This out-of-touch overreach puts the livelihoods of working-class truckers at grave risk of devastation, all to feed a ravenous climate ideology that's indifferent to the consequences for America's backbone labor force. The hardworking men and women behind the wheel who sustain this nation's prosperity deserve leadership that actually understands and values their crucial role - not ruinous mandates from elites who couldn't survive a week on the open road.
